Over the last three weeks, the Bible Institute at Raiwaqa was privileged to have a special guest instructor. Recently, the Director of BIR, Rocco Pierce, has been delayed in the United States due to some health problems with his wife. While she is receiving treatment, the school has had to find alternative teachers to take Rocco's courses until he can return. Even though he is in the U.S., Rocco continues to work with our fill-in teachers to make sure that they have the class materials and support they need in order to successfully teach the courses.
Our most recent visiting instructor was Albert Bobby Whippy. Bobby comes to us from the northern island of Vanua Levu. Bobby was raised in the Lord's church in Savusavu, where his family has long been active leaders in doing the Lord's work. Bobby has received three years of training from a school of preaching located in New Zealand. Since then, he has been working with the churches on the northern island. Currently, Bobby is the primary preacher for the Savusavu church of Christ which is located in Buca village. In addition to his preaching responsibilities and church work, Bobby also works as a school administrator for the local primary school in Buca. He is married to Lonisa, and the couple has three children: Ally, Sonny, and Amaia.
While working with us, Bobby taught the class on the Prison Epistles, covering Paul's letters to the Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon. While he taught from the textbook that Rocco had written to keep consistency with our program's standards, he was also able to include his own materials. Bobby proved to be a great teacher. He was well-prepared, and he did a great job of holding the students' attention.
Not only did Bobby teach in the program, but on the weekends he was able to preach at several of the local congregations in the Suva area. One of the congregations that invited him to preach was the Raiwaqa church of Christ. He did an excellent job while preaching! His lesson was encouraging and very well-delivered. It was truly a blessing to have Bobby with us for the last three weeks.
